The Program:
Daily talks will help you learn what creates successful images and how to analyze a scene by inventorying what the scene has to offer and learning how to take fullest advantage of each unique situation. This includes considering variations in exposure, depth of field, and composition, as well as learning to capture a variety of interpretations of each scene to make sure you've explored all the possibilities and leave feeling that you did the subject justice.
Ben will also demonstrate how he "shoots for Photoshop" in order to take full advantage of the digital tools available. This will include techniques such as depth of field bracketing, high dynamic range imaging, as well as some unique techniques for creatively capturing waterfalls that should get your brain thinking about how to take better advantage of the full capture-to-output digital workflow that's available today.
What you should bring:
An interchangeable lens digital SLR camera with a variety of lenses from wide angle to medium telephoto, professional tripod (not a video tripod), cable release, circular polarizer and laptop computer with Photoshop installed (CS4 is preferred, but you'll be fine with CS3, but not Photoshop Elements). Also, be sure to bring lots of compact flash cards and enough storage to hold your images along with a second drive for backup purposes. You should have a basic understanding of how to transfer files from camera to computer along with basic digital imaging skills (nothing fancy needed).
